So the majority of tonight became "sit around and wait while one guy looks at things" simulator. If for some reason (and there isn't really a logical one) that the monsters figured out this isn't a normal spider the imp can just go invisible and leave, or die and he can re-summon it and it doesn't matter. Those are cool and fun and they still have some risk if the rogue gets caught. Now, I have no problem if players bypass things in smart or creative ways, or if they find interesting ways to get through an encounter without combat, or if a rogue goes ahead to stealth and scout. Some of the other players seemed frustrated as well but they let him finish scouting everything then they all just skipped all of the encounters, went to the end, grabbed some stuff, and left. I can't justify any of the monsters going out of their way to stomp a spider or to single it out, nor could I justify all the doors being closed so tightly they are immune to spiders. An imp can turn into a spider, so they just waited in a room while the warlock turned his imp into a spider and had it scout the entire ruin. I planned the whole layout and all the encounters ahead of time to make sure I was prepared for whatever antics they wanted to pull, but then due to the imp familiar they just skipped everything. I knew they wanted to do some more dungeon delving so tonight I had them go to an old dwarven ruin. They are now level 5 and up to this point they have been fighting a goblin invasion. I am the DM for my group and for the most part everything has been going pretty well.
